Traditional pacific islander stories and symbols combined with contemporary materials.

Story
In 2020 I was awarded a12-week artist residency at Nexus Arts Studio in Adelaide, SA. The generous studio provided allowed me the space to research, develop and create a significant body of new work, which I exhibited in a solo exhibition at the Adelaide Fringe Festival.
The work was presented with the financial support of the Independent Arts Foundation's Small Grant Award, without which I would not have been able to pursue this invaluable opportunity and significant milestone in my career.

During the exhibition 3 tonnes of sand covered the gallery floor, and traditional Tongan music was played through the speakers; creating a completely immersive experience. Walking in the sand and viewing/interacting with the exhibition became a shared experience amongst viewers. Footprints left in the sand were a reminder of my own journey, where I’ve come from and where I may be headed.
