From Within

In 2018 I was awarded an Artist Residency as part of the SALA Festival, in a joint program from Country Health SA and the University of South Australia. I was based at the Rural and Remote Inpatient Unit where I held weekly art classes. I saw reluctant inpatients go from detached observation to picking up a paintbrush.

It’s communication without conversation, and that's really powerful.

The works produced during the residency explore mental health symptoms and healing. The unique experience went far beyond my expectations and gave me permission to have conversations I wouldn’t normally have.
