Story

During Covid my practice developed a strong focus on symbolism found in nature. When the world could only focus on what was lost, I decided to look at what remained. I discovered that many familiar fruits and flowers hold special meanings in religions and cultures around the world, with history spanning centuries.

The work was exhibited at Urban Cow Studio in Adelaide, with Pirate Life Brewing sponsoring the opening night event. Guest speaker on the night was James Hayter; Founder and Director of award-winning Oxygen Landscape Architects + Urban Design Studio, former president of the International Federation of Landscape Design (IFLA), and professor at the Adelaide University School of Architecture.

A combination of still and moving images of friends gardens were projected onto remaining blank wall space and protected by a white picket fence. The gallery felt more familiar and inclusive.

As a passionate mental health advocate, my aim was to use my work as a platform for connection, during a time marked by distance and isolation. I hope to inspire and remind people that there is magic and wonder right in front of us - as long as we
are prepared to look.
